Abidjan, 23 May 2019 – Facebook today announces the deployment of Boost in French-speaking Africa With Facebook, a program that offers African small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) the educational tools to develop their business on the most popular digital platforms.

In progress on the African continent since 2017 in countries such as South Africa or Nigeria, the program which consists of a series of free trainings in online marketing techniques, now extends to six countries in French-speaking Africa. Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Senegal, Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Guinea Conakry. It aims to reach 10,000 entrepreneurs in French-speaking Africa by 2020.

The news was announced during an event in Abidjan that gathered in the morning a hundred participants, entrepreneurs, influencers and institutional personalities.

"Digital platforms now occupy a fundamental place in the economy, and even more so in Africa, where the informal sector accounts for up to 80% of GDP. "With Boost With Facebook, we want to support African entrepreneurs and invite them to take advantage of this turning point to unleash their growth potential and accelerate the development of the continent. While the first hurdle facing small and medium-sized enterprises in Africa is the difficulty to reach consumers, new technologies, in a continent that has more than 185 million mobile subscribers, allow the public to discover new products and services. Boost Facebook is helping local businesses leverage the resources of Facebook, WhatsApp Business and Instagram to unleash new business opportunities and conquer new markets.

The curriculum includes a day of intensive sessions adapted to the online behavior of local users and will be piloted in French-speaking Africa by the Facebook partner Kinaya Ventures innovation platform. The sessions are free and open to everyone.

Expansion of Boost With Facebook in Francophone Africa comes as the Group prepares to launch a new website dedicated to SMEs across Africa, which will also make available to local companies, job seekers, developers and managers a line of communities, a portfolio of free online resources.
